Sisters – August 2017 {Siblings}

Siblings Sisters August

August is a really special one for my siblings post, not only because we have been on holiday but much more simply because the majority of the time they have spent together, 3 whole weeks in each others ordinary company, all of the time. I must admit it feels a little like my two have never really had that time together like I see so many others have. Eva started full time school when Roma was just 7 months old and as much as it wasn’t our plan to have such a big age gap I do feel like they missed out on the playing side. On having a sidekick there 24/7 as they both navigated through early childhood and it was an us and them situation, for so long that has been replaced with an us and the baby/toddler kind of scenario, until now that is.

Don’t get me wrong they play together, we have time, we have half terms and weekends and we adventure all the time but I think this past three weeks of them together on more of an even playing field as my two little girls, two little friends it has given me a lovely little peek into what life would be like with them both at home all of the time and it is pretty great…..and frustrating and exhausting!! I don’t want to paint a perfect picture of course but given the choice I would have them together all of the time and squabbles or not watching them together brings so much joy I cannot even explain.

Just before we went away we had another episode of Roma having a pulled elbow and after last time it was a horrible experience and now with the opposite arm it brought up so many more questions and unknowns and it also didn’t go back in again. The support and care that Eva showed her sister as she had to have it manually popped back in at the hospital was amazing to see, Roma looks to her for comfort and reassurance and I hope that is always the case. It doesn’t matter how much the fight and squabble and irritate each other on an almost daily basis, when the tough times come they are right there for each other.

So, other than this, my two in August have enjoyed, sharing in each others joy at going on a plane, Roma was so ridiculously excited about her first time and when they both looked out of the window at take off and through the seats to each other I hoped that was a moment they would remember for a long time. On holiday they shared a room which whilst not without it’s issues of separating the beds to give them both the space they craved, and telling them to just go to sleep, it went so much better that I could have imagined, I loved hearing them chat to each other of a morning.

They are still little mirrors of each other, they couldn’t look more different but when one is doing something, so is the other! This is also starting an element of competitiveness between them which makes Eddy and I look at each other with knowing eyes and smiles. Roma is definitely the more competitive of the two but being 4 years older Eva doesn’t want to let it slide!! Which also goes for making things fair too, Eva can be heard saying “but Roma doesn’t have to/isn’t/hasn’t” at any given opportunity. On holiday they loved swimming and splashing in the pool, rock pooling and eating ice cream and sorbet every day.

For this months photos I thought I would do something a little bit different, instead of choosing one day, one photo taking session and numerous snaps of the same place I thought I would do like a little round up of my sisters on their holiday (and possibly because I have so many of them together that I just cannot wait to share!) I love them all and I love that they take me on a journey with a glimpse of what life looks like for me now, sitting back and watching as it all evolves in front of my eyes. Yes they irritate each other, they squabble, Eva has a tendency to be dismissive, Roma has a tendency to be suffocating but watching them is quite possibly the best feeling in the world and I really do feel like the lucky one that gets to see it every minute of every day.

xx

This photo is taken at the highest point of the Algarve, which incidentally meant it was the windiest too! They were racing back and forth and Eva is laughing because Roma had no chance as Eva had usually ran off even before she shouted go, luckily Roma thinks it is the funniest thing ever.

Just watching the boats.

I love these ones, so many at the moment are of the back of their heads but I love the adventure it shows and they do go off together so really this is my usual view.

Yet sometimes there is no amount of running Roma can do to keep up with her sister when she is not feeling it, this is one of those times!

They really are so close and when Eva is in the mood she loves nothing more than picking Roma up and having the biggest of cuddles, you can tell that Roma takes this for all she can and hangs on for dear life. I love her little hands wrapped around Eva’s back.

These two are not like their mother and they love the beach so taking the opportunity to take these photos through the beautiful rocks for me was amazing and it was just stunning there.

    These look amazing what a beautiful collection of holiday snaps together. They sound like the best of friends. I love seeing sisters brings back memories of mine own sister and me. I always wish I had more kids so MM possibly could have a sister and B a brother so they understood those amazing dynamics. It’s different for brother and sister still just as close but I am lucky enough to have both bonds between my brothers and my sister with myself. Each relationship close and different. It’s beautiful to watch your girls grow here and summer seems to have matured them too. #siblingsproject
