“Hello. I am 5”

To My Little Lady E

On 30th December you turned 5. Ever since that day a very ordinary moment has occurred…every day, on every occasion you can possibly get the words in you exclaim “Hello. I am 5”. It comes with such pride in your voice that you cannot help but smile. Whether this be to someone at the school gates, a friend or indeed anyone anywhere that happens to engage in conversation with you because my little lady you do like to talk!

WOW

A whole 5 years since you came into the world and made me a mama. As you reach this milestone I sit here still in wonderment and awe. Of how we got here, of how time has flown so fast. You are now well and truly your own little person and I feel privileged to watch you grow.

Five years old seems so big. I look at you sometimes and I can see the Lady that you will soon become. A beautiful glimpse into the future. Yet there have been times, usually through illness that reminds us both how much you still need me. In that moment I can still see my baby, the baby I once held so firmly in my arms day after day, the baby that no matter how old you get a part of me will still see when I look into your eyes.

This year you became a big sister. And oh my goodness you are just the most wonderful sister there could be. You can tell R thinks so too, just by the look in her eyes.

You started school. I am not sure if this was bigger for you or for mum but I can tell you it was an emotional summer. You are a very bright one, sensible and mature, a bookworm who loves to learn and totally ready for school. Despite some teething issues you walk through those gates every morning with a smile on your face ready to tackle a new day, you amaze me and I could not be prouder. Although mum still misses you dearly every single day.

In contrast to your sensitive and sensible side you are also very funny, loving nothing more than making people laugh with your jokes, your funny nature or even the too mature for your age attitude or phrases that you come out with which you know will raise laughter in a group of adults. You still own a room of adults much more so than children and adore nothing more than the attention of your aunties and uncles!

I don’t know if it has been your age this year or the fact you have become a sibling however some of the shy nature that we have seen so much of has dissipated and made way for a confidence which is so lovely to see. With a unique sense of style and a love of accessories there is nothing better to you than to be different and cool and I absolutely love that about you. I hope to instil enough confidence in you that you can carry that with you always. After all there is only one you and you have to embrace it. So far I have to tell you that you seem to rock it.

We have been through a lot together and all in all you take it in your stride. It has inevitably shaped the person that you are today. We are a team, always have been and always will be and you truly are the light of my life.

As always if I could choose any 5 year old, I would always choose you.

I love you

I adore this post. 5 was such a huge milestone for my eldest too, she said it with such pride. It was starting school age and she felt so so grown up. Lovely photos. #theordinarymoments

Thank you, I think you are right and you forget how special it is and this one seems to have been the biggest milestone – although I am sure I will probably say that each year!

Oh this is so lovely and she really is beautiful. I loved reading this because my little girl turned 5 on 24th December and I can read so many similarities. Except I am breeding a tom boy! Happy belated birthday to your lovely girl. x

Thank you lovely. When I read about Mads I do think they seem very similar – E would much rather be called cool that pretty – our youngest has a February birthday too like LL! x

How sweet, I love that she’s so chatty. She really is so beautiful. It must be a great age to be a big sister at as well. Our eldest was 6 when the 3rd one came along and she was so good with him. Looking forward to reading more of your blog over the year xxx
